The 445th saw only a few missions being flown, but late in the month, on a strike against the oil refineries at Misburg, Germany, fate struck again. After the mission was aborted due to weather over the target, the 445th was hit by a group of German Fw 190's that took advantage of a layer of clouds that separated the bombers from their fighter escort. Five planes went down in short order and the prompt arrival of their escorts prevented the loss of more.
