April, 1945 - The end of the war is in sight. Target selection is getting harder and harder to find targets not already destroyed. Three crews are lost to fighters as the Germans put up one last stand. The last casualty suffered by the 445th was a copilot from the 701st Bomb Squadron, 2nd Lt Lyman M. Bates, Jr., who was killed in a training accident on April 22, 1945, just 3 days before the unit flew their last mission on April 25th.
