Good day, my name is Rick Jongbloed and I live in the Netherlands. I adopted George V McGuiness who is on the wall of the missing at the American cemetery in Margraten. He was a tailgunner in the 445th bomb group and crashed in the North Sea. I visit him every year and put flowers down. I've been looking for family for years but unfortunately I haven't found anyone yet.

Staff Sergeant George V. McGuiness was born September 24, 1923. His next of kin was his wife, Irene McGuiness, and his parents, George and Helen McGuiness. He was from Brooklyn, New York.

On March 20, 1945, while serving as a Gunner aboard B-24 tail #44-48851 of the 445th Bomb Group, 701st Bomb Squadron, his plane went down over the North Sea near Heligoland.

Are there perhaps people who can help me with my quest?
Thank you.
Rick Jongbloed.

Hello Mike, my wife's grandfather was in the 445th - 701st and was the pilot of a B24. I was able to locate a landing accident report doc. Is this of any interest to you for your website? Chris

I am visiting the Tibenham Airfield in March 2024. If you would like me to take pictures of anything specific, or have questions I may be able to find the answers to there, please send me an email at pbornhop@sbcglobal.net. I pray that Mike is doing well and, once again, offer my gratitude for the work he and his wife have completed on this incredible site.

Hello, I am eternally grateful for Mike's work and for receiving my father's Personal Mission book from him. In March of 2024, I am travelling to England and have plans to visit Tibenham and the airfield. If anyone here has any suggestions for such a visit, I'm all ears. Kind regards, Patty Bornhop

Hello Mike, I am researching my dad's military service - he served at Tibenham in 1944 - there was a B-24 that was recalled to the field and accidentally dropped a bomb - 2 servicemen where killed and a civilian in a house - this was February 1944 - my father was very badly injured - I believe this was the event and I can't find out anything. My dad passed and I am trying to find out what happened - he did not speak of it. I love your research! Any help

I am the historian at the 908th AW at Maxwell AFB AL and wanted to let everyone know that the former 703rd Bomb Squadron will be activated into the AF Reserve in the coming months. After its WWII service, the 703rd Tactical Air Support Squadron was active from 1967-1988 and now we will be a helicopter training squadron (MH-139). The activation will be sometime in early 2023 and I will send more details as I know them. Anyone can contact me any time about this at hikentilley@gmail.com or call me at 334-612-9820. It will be great to see the 703rd history live on!

I know this site may not be checked that frequently, but if the owner could change 'deactivated' in the main /intro page to the more correct 'inactivated' that would be good.

Mr. Simpson, thank you so much for your efforts in creating and maintaining this site and the research behind it. My grandfather, SSgt. John H. McCrary Jr. was a tail gunner in the 701st flying with Lt. Rowe D. Bowen Jr. on a B-24. Found your site while doing some research into the number of missions they flew and the Kassel mission which I believe they were not a part of. I can only imagine the time and dedication you have given to preserving information about the 445th and I thank you again for you efforts!
